About Lights Out

Lights Out solves one small but annoying problem: working out what time a Formula 1 session actually starts where you are. Official calendars and most schedule sites publish times in the circuit’s local zone, or in a single fixed zone like UK time, leaving you to do the timezone maths — and to get it wrong when the clocks change. Lights Out does that conversion for you, for every practice, qualifying, sprint and race of the 2026 season.

How it works

Pick your timezone once and whenstherace.com remembers it locally in your browser. Every start time on the home page and on each per-race page is then shown in that zone, with a live countdown to the next session. You can add a single race to your calendar with a built-in 30-minute reminder, or subscribe to the full-season calendar feed so your calendar stays in sync if a session time moves.

Where the data comes from

The schedule is built from the public, community-run Jolpica F1 API (the successor to the long-running Ergast project). It is fetched when the site is built and refreshed automatically, so the times you see reflect the latest published schedule rather than a hand-edited table. Circuit facts shown on each race page — lengths, lap counts and the year a venue first held a World Championship round — are hand-checked stable facts, not generated text.

What it costs and how it’s funded

Lights Out is free to use and needs no account. The site may carry advertising to cover hosting costs; how any advertising and analytics handle data is described in our Privacy Policy.
